OTHER SOURCES OF FUNDING

The Sir Richard Stapley Educational Trust's funds are limited and, unfortunately, we are unable to support every applicant.

If you are unsuccessful, ineligible, or require additional funding, the resources below may help you identify alternative sources of financial support for postgraduate study. Many charities, trusts, universities and funding organisations provide grants, scholarships and bursaries to students studying in the UK.

Government Funding

Postgraduate Master's Loans

Students from the UK may be eligible for government-backed postgraduate loans. Eligibility and funding arrangements vary between England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Further information can be found through the relevant national student finance body.

Doctoral and Research Funding

Many PhD students receive support through UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), research councils, university-funded studentships and doctoral training programmes.

Applicants considering research degrees should consult their university's funding webpages for available opportunities.

University Scholarships and Bursaries

Most universities offer scholarships, bursaries, hardship funds and other financial support schemes specifically for postgraduate students.

We strongly recommend checking:

  • Your university's funding webpages

  • Departmental scholarship schemes

  • International student scholarships

  • Hardship and emergency support funds

  • Alumni and donor-funded awards

These opportunities are often available only to students at a particular institution.

Applying for Multiple Sources of Funding

Many postgraduate students fund their studies through a combination of grants, scholarships, savings, employment and student finance.

We encourage applicants to explore multiple funding opportunities rather than relying on a single source of support.
